Client brief
Our clients had outgrown their existing practice due to an increasing patient base – they saw an opportunity to convert a nearby disused NHS doctor’s surgery into a new state-of-the-art practice.
On recommendation from a national specialist cabinetry and equipment supplier, they employed NDC to carry out the construction of a new, five-surgery dental practice, including decontamination room, stores, waiting/reception area, private waiting room, disabled WC, OPG room, filing, offices and staff areas.
Unique challenges
The proposed new premises had stood empty for a long time and was in a state of disrepair. Previously a healthcare centre it required complete re-modelling into a dental practice. A small extension was required at the rear of the building to house a decontamination room. On the first floor, minor works were required to create staff areas, offices and two rental apartments – this area had separate external access.
The project ran smoothly from start to finish, despite obstacles presented by the building’s condition.
Client thoughts
“Work commenced in the first week of January 2017, with the help of both Clark Dental and NDC. NDC had come in towards the end of the design phase to offer their practical input and ensure the final build would be compliant with building regulations and then they got started on the build, in close cooperation with us and the team from Clark Dental.
Considering the size of the project, the actual building work went relatively smoothly. Luckily, because we were so close to the new build, we could pop in a couple of times a week to really keep an eye on things and ensure everything was as we wanted it to be.
Now the new build has been finished, we are incredibly happy with the result. Our patients always comment on how the practice looks and our team love working in the new space.”
